District Responds to California Drought Requirements

District Responds to California Drought Requirements
Posted on 08/11/2015

Over the past several years, the State of California has been experiencing a significant drought.  On January 17, 2015, Governor Brown declared a “Drought State of Emergency” ordering the implementation of a 20 step plan. On April 1, 2015, Governor Brown declared the first ever statewide mandatory water reductions and directed the State Water Resources Control Board to implement mandatory water reductions in cities and towns across California to reduce water usage by 25 percent.

In response to the drought and the Governor’s subsequent actions, District staff members have prepared a response and a recommended course of action to reduce water consumption throughout the District. These recommendations were present to the Board of Trustees at the regular Board meeting on July 7, 2015, in a the form of a PowerPoint presentation available by clicking on the link below.

On July 28, 2015, the Orange County Resister ran an article on the top water savers in the City of Fullerton. The article noted that the District cut back water consumption by 49 percent compared to the same period in 2013; the state established 2013 as the comparison baseline. The article can be accessed at the following link.
